TNPSC GROUP 4 EXAM

TNPSC Group 4 2025 also known as Combined Civil Service Examination-IV invites applications every year for direct recruitment against the vacancies in the various group 4 posts included in the Tamil Nadu Ministerial Service, Non-Technical Subordinate Service, Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board, Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Secretariat Service, Tamil Nadu Secretariat Service, Tamil Nadu Judicial Ministerial Service and Tamil Nadu Housing Board Subordinate Service.

Tamil Nadu Public Service has released the exam pattern for the recruitment of TNPSC Group 4 of posts that come under the cadre.  Different posts include Village Administrative Officer, Junior Assistant, Typist, Steno-Typist, etc are included in the TNPSC Group 4. Candidates who want to apply for these posts must be well-versed with the TNPSC Group 4 Syllabus and Exam pattern 2025.

  1. The TNPSC Group 4 is a 300 marks examination.
  2. Questions in this exam would be asked from  General Tamil, General Studies and Aptitude & Mental Ability.

TNPSC Group 4 2025 Age Limit

The candidates should have completed the age of 18 years and should not have completed 32 years as on 01.07.2025 for all the posts, except for the posts of Village Administrative Officer, Forest Guard, Forest Guard with Driving Licence, Forest Watcher, and Forest Watcher (Tribal Youth).  

For the post of the Village Administrative Officer, Forest Guard, Forest Guard with Driving Licence, Forest Watcher, and Forest Watcher (Tribal Youth), the candidates should have completed the age of 21 years and should not have completed 32 years as on 01.07.2025.

Age Concession:

The post-wise permissible relaxation of the maximum age limit for different categories is given below:

Supporting Documents:

The date of birth will be verified against the tenth standard (SSLC) or twelfth standard (HSC) mark sheet, issued by the Tamil Nadu Board of Secondary Education and Tamil Nadu Board of Higher Secondary Education respectively.

Those candidates whose date of birth is not mentioned in their tenth standard / twelfth standard mark sheet must upload/produce their Birth Certificate / Transfer Certificate / Degree Mark Sheets, instead of the tenth standard or twelfth standard mark sheet. Any other form of evidence will
not be accepted.

Failure to upload/produce such a document shall result in the rejection of candidature after due process

TNPSC GROUP 4 Exam 2025 Educational qualification

The candidates should possess the educational, technical qualifications, and experience prescribed for the post, on the date of notification.

Minimum General Educational Qualification:

The candidates should possess the educational, technical qualifications and experience prescribed for the post, on the date of notification.

The minimum general educational qualification means, a pass in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination of Tamil Nadu.

A person who had appeared and passed the 10th Standard Government Examination conducted by the Board of Open School, Tamil Nadu shall be deemed to have passed the SSLC Public Examination.

The degree qualification should have been obtained by passing the required qualification in the following order of studies viz., 10th + HSC / Diploma or its equivalent + U.G. Degree.

A Matriculate Ex-Serviceman (which term includes an Ex-Serviceman who has obtained the Indian Army Special Certificate of Education or the corresponding certificate in the Navy or the Air Force), who has put in not less than 15 years of service in the Armed Forces of the Union shall be considered eligible for appointment to the posts for which the essential qualification prescribed is Graduation.

Medical and Physical Standards:

Posts other than Forest Guard, Forest Guard with Driving Licence, Forest Watcher, and Forest Watcher (Tribal Youth) 

Candidates selected for appointment to the posts will be required to submit a certificate of physical fitness to the Appointing Authority at the time of joining the post.

The visual acuity of the candidates will have to be within Standard III or better. Candidates with defective vision should produce an Eye Fitness certificate from a qualified Eye Specialist working in a Government Hospital.

TNPSC Group 4 Exam Pattern

The TNPSC Group 4 Exam is an offline mode examination. The aspirants have to answer 300 marks of 200 multiple-choice questions which carries 1.5 marks for each question with No Negtive Marks. The TNPSC Group 4 syllabus includes

  1. Part A – General Studies (75 Questions)
  2. Part B – Aptitude and Mental Ability (25 Questions)
  3. Part C – General Tamil (100 Questions)

Note :
(i) The Part-A  and Part B of the answer sheets will be evaluated only, if the candidate secures minimum qualifying marks 40% (i.e.,60 Marks) in Part-C.
(ii) Total marks secured in Part-A, Part-B and Part-C taken together will be considered for ranking.

Unit 1. General Science (5 Questions)
i. Physics : Nature of Universe – Measurement of Physical Quantities – General Scientific Laws in Motion – Force, Pressure and Energy – Everyday application of the basic principles of Mechanics, Electricity, Magnetism, Light, Sound, Heat and Nuclear Physics in our daily life.

ii. Chemistry : Elements and Compounds, Acids, Bases, Salts, Petroleum Products, Fertilizers, Pesticides, Metallurgy and Food Adulterants.

iii. Biology : Main concepts of Life Science, Classification of living organisms, Evolution, Genetics, Physiology, Nutrition, Health and Hygiene, Human diseases, Environmental Science; Latest inventions in science and technology; Current affairs.

i. Earth Location – Physical Features – Monsoon, rainfall, weather and climate– Water resources–Rivers –Soil, Minerals and Natural

iii. Population density and distribution in Tamil Nadu and India.

iv. Calamities – Disaster Management – Environment – Climate change; Geographical landmarks; Current affairs. 

Unit 3. History, Culture of India, and Indian National Movement (10 Questions)
i. Indus Valley Civilization – Guptas, Delhi Sultans, Mughals and Marathas – South Indian History

ii. National Renaissance –Early uprising against British Rule–Indian National Congress – Emergence of Leaders –B.R.Ambedkar, Bhagat Singh, Bharathiar, V.O.Chidambaranar, Thanthai Periyar, Jawaharlal Nehru, Rabindranath Tagore, Kamarajar, Mahatma Gandhi, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Rajaji, Subhash Chandra Bose, Muthulaksmi Ammaiyar, Muvalur Ramamirtham and other National
